GRR and Giant work together to provide safe, environmentally beneficial waste management services by recovering the energy value from many hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.
GRR accepts bulk waste such as solvents, waste oils, coolants, filters, rags, debris, and other solids in railcars, tanker trucks, and dump trailers. Not only does GRR receive waste directly from generators, it also receives waste fuel that has been processed by its sister facilities, GRR-Attalla and GRR-Sumter. By coordinating the capabilities of our facilities, we are able to provide customers with the best service possible.
Once GRR has processed the waste into fuel, it is delivered to Giant’s kiln where it is burned in the production of Portland cement. Unlike other cement kilns, Giant operates separate feed systems for liquid and solid waste fuel. Solids are shredded in three-stages prior to being fed into the cement kiln precalciner. Liquids are injected into the hot end of the kiln. This unique dual feed system enables GRR to easily process many difficult solid hazardous wastes.
Modifications have recently been completed to increase Giant’s ability
to
burn waste-derived fuel by as much as 20% in 2020. In turn, this will increase
GRR’s
capacity to manage your waste. With these improvements, we expect to conserve
the
equivalent of 70,000 tons of fossil fuel this year.
